Ujjivan Chote Kadam’s Community Development Initiatives for Rural Karnataka
Bangalore, February 14, 2019: Ujjivan Financial Services in collaboration with Parinaam Foundation have completed numerous community development initiatives in rural districts of Karnataka. As part of Ujjivan Chote Kadam, a community connect programme, the organisation initiates a series of infrastructure development projects in rural areas across India. The programme has completed few impactful projects in rural parts of Karnataka including construction of a new bus stop in Doddakurubarahalli village near Devanahalli, setting up of a 250 LPH water purifier with 500 litre capacity in Nelamangala and the construction of a new mid–day meal shed facility for the Govt School in Govindaraj Nagar, Magadi Road. In addition, a few other initiatives including donation of utilities like cupboards, cots and water purifier to a Primary Health Centre in Murphy Town Area, construction of a road divider near KC circle, amenities for children at Rajkumar Park in Attiguppe, construction of another bus stand at Shanbhogana halli village in Bannerghatta and construction of Children's park and play area at Dommasandra in Anekal were also completed.
Doddakurubarahalli is a small village in Devanahalli Taluk in Bangalore Rural district of Karnataka State. There are 7 villages in the locality with 500+ populations. Earlier, there was not a single permanent bus shelter in this area in spite of 16 route buses plying daily for the passengers of the village. The Chote Kadam programme identified this issue and built a bus stop that now provides shelter to passengers.
Similarly, a government school in Govindaraj Nagar, Magadi Road providing education to over 200 students between 7th and 10th grade was in a grave need of shelter where the mid-day meal could be provided. Through this programme, a new shed is built protecting the children from dust, sun or rain during lunch time.
Likewise, in Nelamangala, the busy general hospital with a 100+ bed facility and 700 to 800 outpatients visiting every day was found to have no permanent & safe drinking water facility. Hospital authorities had been managing this situation by providing water cans for the use of patients and attenders. This required regular maintenance and often did not meet the necessary requirement. To solve this very basic need of clean drinking water, Ujjivan Chote Kadam installed a 250 LPH water purifier with a 500 litre capacity. This stainless steel plant functions using reverse osmosis technology.
Mr. Ittira Davis, MD & CEO, Ujjivan Financial Services, said, “We are pleased to execute and construct these new projects in rural districts of Karnataka. Ujjivan initiated the community development program in 2010 to address the critical needs of the society. Projects are decided after different communities share their day to day problems which are then executed by voluntary support of Ujjivan branch team members. This diversification approach maximizes the benefits to communities across all 24 States we operate in.”
Commenting on the initiative, Ms. Mallika Ghosh, Executive Director, Parinaam Foundation added, “Basic infrastructure like seating arrangements, safe drinking water and functional bus stands continues to be an unmet requirement in many rural districts across our country. We are grateful for the local officials in each of these districts to allow us execute these valuable projects.”
Ujjivan Chote Kadam is a Community Development Program which comprises of projects addressing the needs of the community. The projects are dedicated in the areas of Public Infrastructure, Education, Environment, Health and Sanitation.
